MY TEMPER IS KEEPING ME WARM

Texas will be introducing its own quasi "open records" bill. If you even want to call it that. It places the financial burden on the adoptee first off. Instead of charging the adoptee a fee for a birth certificate, it seems like we will be charged for the confidential intermediary along with all file copying charges.

It is also a game of playing "Mommy May I." That is a game that an adult should not have play. I am an adult. I ask Rep Goolsby "Why are you treating me like I am a child?" You are also invading my first parents' right to privacy by asking them to consent to a medical history. With my adoptive parents, my sisters can get theirs verbally from my mother. Something that is so private you are willing to let God knows how many others have privy too. What is so wrong with giving adoptees, first parents, and adoptive parents equivocal access to the records that pertain to our lives? What is so wrong with allowing us to be adults like Oregon has? Are you really going to listen to what adoption agencies have to say?

Don't tell me that women who have been raped want their privacy because I can turn around and give you several women who want contact with their children. Don't tell me that women want privacy from their children. I can present the statistics from Oregon that says 99% of mothers want contact with their children. I can also present a research study by the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute also saying that 90% want contact with their children. Don't you think that adult adoptees can be adult? Are you being presumptuous in assuming that adoptees are insane and will stalk our parents? It sounds like it to me. Look at the cases below that I present to you. Laws like these continue to hurt people. Laws like these continue to punish people who have NOT committed a crime. Laws like these take the blame off the adoption attorneys and agencies who deserve all of the blame.

This is the copy of HB 525 from the State of Texas Legislative site at http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/BillLookup/Text.aspx?LegSess=80R&Bill=HB525:
80R3316 MCK-D
By: Rep Goolsby H.B. No. 525

Let me also present to you the four reasons why you should not listen to anything an adoption agency should say.
1. Rashad Head - a young man who wants to raise his son. The mother of this child is being coerced into giving this child up for adoption. This young man has fought since day one for his child. He filed on both of the putative father registries in Georgia and Florida.

2. Shawn Mcdonald - another case just like the one above.

3. Stephanie Bennett, Ohio - a young mother who was scared. She was given an adoption agency pamphlet by her HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR AND TOLD TO RUN AWAY FROM HOME. IT WAS THE ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. YES FOLKS I SAID SCHOOL DISTRICT OWNS THE ADOPTION AGENCY. HE HAS RECENTLY RESIGNED FROM HIS POST. DO YOU GET THAT THIS CAN AND HAS PROBABLY HAPPENED HERE? I WAS TOLD BY A FELLOW COWORKER TO CALL THE HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR AND FIND A PREGNANT TEEN IF I WANTED TO ADOPT. STEPHANIE'S PARENTS HAVE CUSTODY OF THE CHILD BUT THE ADOPTION AGENCY REFUSES TO GIVE THE CHILD BACK. THEY HAVE TOLD THE PROSPECTIVE ADOPTIVE PARENTS TO HIDE THE CHILD AND NOT RETURN THE CHILD. PEOPLE WE NEED TO FIGHT BACK AGAINST THIS.

4. Allison Quets is a story that everyone has heard about.

THESE CASES SHOW THE CORRUPTION OF ADOPTION AGENCIES. I ALSO REPORTED ON TWO OTHER ANONYMOUS WOMEN AS WELL. THIS MUST STOP. THESE TYPES OF LAWS ALLOW THE ADOPTION AGENCIES TO CONTINUE OPERATING AS IS. HURTING PEOPLE ALONG THE WAY WHILE THEY MAKE A BUCK OFF OUR BACKS, OUR HEARTS AND OUR PAIN.
