COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT

On January 1, 2009, Maine adoptees will have unfettered access to their records. It is definitely a wonderful beginning to a New Year. I am looking forward to starting the fight for Texas and Indiana.

Here is another news report out of Augusta concerning this important event in Maine history.

AUGUSTA (NEWS CENTER) - Adoptees in Maine can now start the process of obtaining their original birth certificates.

AUGUSTA (NEWS CENTER) - Adoptees in Maine can now start the process of obtaining their original birth certificates.

The certificates they receive now list only their adoptive parents, making it difficult for them to find out who their biological parents are.

A new law making it easier to obtain that information takes effect in the new year. The bill was passed in June by the legislature and signed by governor baldacci. Birth parents will have the option of saying whether or not they want to be contacted by the adoptee.

A group called OBCforME is offering to help adoptees go through the process.

The group is meeting Saturday December 6th in the community room of Norway Savings Bank in Falmouth at 10 am.
